An event not to be missed:
The Congress on French America
Coming Up In Montréal, May 20th - 22nd, 2011
Québec City (Québec), February 10th, 2011 — On May 20, 21 and 22, Fédération Histoire Québec (FHQ) and Fédération québécoise des sociétés de généalogie (FQSG) will hold a major congress devoted to the history, heritage and genealogy of French America.
Other prominent partners involved are:
Société nationale de l’Acadie;
Société franco-ontarienne d’histoire et de généalogie (SFOHG);
Regroupement des organismes en patrimoine franco-ontarien;
Centre de recherche en civilisation canadienne-française de l’Université d’Ottawa;
Musée de Pointe-à-Callière;
Ville de Montréal.
A unique experience!
The congress’ theme will be of interest to all Francophones and people of French descent throughout America (at least, throughout North America ). It will take place in Montréal, a city more accessible than any other for such a ground-breaking event. Participants (the event will be open not only to members of our organizations, but also to the general public) will discover the rich contribution of French culture and civilization to America . We wish that Francophones from all over America (particularly those from Canada and New England) rediscover themselves, get to know each other better, get closer together and, eventually, work more closely in order to preserve the rich heritage entrusted to us by our ancestors, whether old-stock Québécois, Acadians, Franco-Canadians from outside Québec, Franco-Americans, Louisianans, or others.
Of course, history, heritage and genealogy will have pride of place during this event (the main venue for which will be Montréal’s Convention Centre, the Palais des congrès), but archives, immaterial as well as material heritage, toponymy and many other topics of interest to Francophones throughout America will be discussed.
All in all, this will be a pleasant and educational experience where participants as well as featured speakers will rediscover French America, as well as an experience leading to the coming together of people who are passionate about the rich and varied history of French America and maybe even to the birth of a pan-American network for the communication and exchange of information between these various groups.
Anyone with an interest in French America is invited to take part in this new adventure.
